The Hassan II Mosque was built between 1986 and 1993 and, according to official information, is a gift from the Moroccan people to their king (the late King Hassan ll, who died in 1999).

It is considered one of the largest mosques in the world and its minaret of about 200 m is the 2nd highest in the world.
